The Final Countdown

Everything was signed off last week, including the cover and hopefully the printers have started work on transforming all the proofs into books. I need to have copies ready three weeks from now to take to The Writers' Summer School at Swanwick - (places still available) and am thinking of sending a few elves down to help.
Three weeks to see the actual books - it doesn't seem that long now, given the fact that I started work on the book more than two years ago. I'll have to use some of the time to get flyers made and somehow create space in my flat for the 300 copies I'm taking. My advice to anyone thinking of being an author, is to consider moving if, like me, you live in a 2nd floor flat with no lift!
I think I'd better increase my visits to the swimming pool each week and use the weights I bought a while back.

  1. What happy news! *rubs hands in eager anticipation*

Perhaps you could rent a crane and hoist the books in through a window? ;-)

Hope the elves get the copies ready for you to take to the summer school!

  2. I think it will be more a case of mopping my brow in relief when they are finally out there.

I do actually have a garage (don't know what you would call it in Canada), but the roof leaks and it's full of spiders and snails. No way would I store anything in there, even if the roof were fixed.

I do hope so - or elves I'll be very disappointed and a little miffed!

  3. Actually, we'd call a garage a garage in Canada. Just slightly different pronunciation (accent on the second syllable). (Giving the lie, for the moment, to the quotation about Britain and America being "two countries separated by a common language"... and here I'm obviously using "America" in a broad sense.)

  4. Ah - gar aage as opposed to gaar age, thanks for clearing that up (though I watch enough of NCIS and CSI so I should have realised that for myself. And I didn't want to presume that you spoke the same language as Americans!

  5. Sell 'em and then you'll wonder why you didn't order 400 copies!

  6. I live in hope - at least I try to. Sometimes I forget that and have expectations and that can lead to you being left deflated.

  8. Thanks, Leela - I hope some of the other 1,700 shift fairly quickly too. Will keep you posted on the launch front.
